Decimals an Introduction

In mathematics, a decimal is a number noted in base 10, by applying a decimal point and digits to depict fractions. For instance, the decimal expression of the fraction 1/4 is 0.25, and the decimal expression of the fraction 1/3 is 0.33333333..., which is an infinite decimal.

Decimals can also be depicted by repeating decimals, which are decimals that have a pattern of digits that repeat indefinitely. For instance, the decimal 0.12121212... is a repeating decimal, with the pattern "12" repeating infinitely.

Decimals are used in several different contexts, including in money, measurements, and scientific notation. They provide a convenient way to represent fractions and can be easily written, read, and comprehended by people.

There are other ways too to depict fractions, like in mixed numbers or in simplest form. For instance, the fraction 1/4 can be written as a mixed number as 0 1/4, and in simplest form as 1/2.
